When I read the book He's Just Not That Into You by former Sex and the City script writer Greg Behrendt, I remember thinking to myself, "this guy's such a boob, can anybody write a dating book these days?"  Apparently the answer is yes.

Not only did Behrendt write a best selling advice book that landed him on the Oprah Winfrey Show, now an A-list cast movie has been made based on his work.  The overly simplified "dating tips" in He's Just Not That Into You are now being spread on the big screen.

Forget the days when true dating advice required some sort of degree in human behavior, now all you need is an opinion, a good PR guy and some Hollywood pull to coach to the lovelorn.

Case in point: 9-year old Alec Greven who has penned a New York Times bestseller on dating.  Titled How to Talk to Girls, Greven's observations from the playground are the source of his dating insight.   Yes, I said playground.

Like an anthropologist observing monkeys in the wild, Greven has come up with some rather novel musings on human dating behavior by watching his fellow children at play.  Yes, I said children.

The sad thing is that Alec Greven's dating tips aren't that bad and they without a doubt trump the cynical and condescending advice given by the grown up Greg Behrendt.  Hmmm... maybe I should revisit my 10-year old's math class derived investment tips.

"I just observed around the playground how boys mess up and what mistakes they make," said Alec.

"A lot of boys made the wrong conversations or they couldn't get over it when a girl dumped them."

Alec believes showing interest is the key to winning a girl's heart.

He said: "Your goal is to make sure she does most of the talking so then you can't mess up."

In his book, Alec suggests that men find a cool role model to base their behaviour on.

However, he warns against pursuing A-list females.

"The best choice for most boys is a regular girl. Remember some pretty girls are cold-hearted when it comes to boys," he said.
