Children arrived at Imperial Avenue Infant School, Leicester on Monday morning to find their school garden sealed off with crime incident tape and what appeared to be a forensic science team investigating a huge cocoon that appeared in the garden overnight.

A spokesperson for the team investigating what some have described as an 'alien object' and others as 'the pod in the quad' said today:

"Our initial investigations lead us to believe that the cocoon may have organic living matter within it but it is too early to speculate what might emerge as investigations continue"

"We hit a dead end originally but we are now making progress with the help of the children at the school - their thinking is so much fresher than our own"
