Dr. Gregory House, played by Hugh Laurie on the hit Fox TV show "House M.D." was voted best choice for doctor in an upcoming Doctor Who movie by David Yates.

Hugh Laurie is the world's highest paid television actor and named the favorite actor to play Doctor Who in a new upcoming film "Time Lord". IGN.com took a poll for best actor to play Doctor Who and Hugh Laurie beat out Harry Potter's Gary Oldman and X-Men Star Michael Fassbender. The poll concluded the actors in this order:

  • Hugh Laurie
  • Gary Oldman
  • Michael Fassbender
  • James McAvoy
  • Ewan McGregor

"And with his combination of wit, intelligence, charm and eccentricity, Hugh Laurie was the runaway winner of our poll, with fans believing the Brit to be the perfect man to play the Time Lord on the big screen," said Chris Tilly, the website's entertainment editor.

The planned movie, to be directed by the Harry Potter filmmaker, is expected to take "two to three years" to get right. It has not been decided if Matt Smith, as the current incarnation of the Doctor, would portray him in the feature.
