The 10th Women’s Cricket World Cup kicks off in three weeks time as the premier female cricketers from eight nations would fight it out in India. Australia, England, India and New Zealand had already qualified for the event, while Sri Lanka, South Africa, Pakistan and West Indies qualified through the women’s world cup qualifier in Bangladesh two years ago.
The Women’s Cricket has made great strides in the past decade. Most major boards have handed out central contracts to their female cricketers, even the relatively weakly sponsored PCB and WICB followed suit couple of years ago.
The results have shown an immediate upturn. Unsavory incidents like dissimilar prize money for World T20 event rear their ugly head from time to time, but the jibes about cricketing ability are fast becoming history as welcome acceptance surges. Now, over to sponsors and media. While they are not yet marquee names like their male counterparts, women’s cricket has its fair share of champions and upcoming stars.
