Determined Blogger Figures Out Date for Ice Cube's "It Was a Good Day"

We know that, at some point in the early nineties, Ice Cube had a good day... but which day was it? Now we know.

Blogger Donovan Strain deserves some sort of special recognition for his feat of hip-hop history research. Strain, writing for Murk Avenue, has determined the exact date referenced by Ice Cube in his 1993 hit "It Was a Good Day" from The Predator.

Donovan Strain's findings will bring smiles to the faces of hip-hop fans, and will add to Ice Cube's legacy for those who only know him as the guy who makes family films.

Just look at this detective work, which encompasses weather reports, mobile technology, sports scores, and Ice Cube's own work schedule:

CLUE 5:
“Got a beep from Kim, and
         she can fuck all night”
beepers weren’t adopted by mobile phone companies until the 1990s. Dates left where mobile beepers were availible to public:
                 Jan 18 1991

                 Jan 20 1992

Donovan Strain goes on to suggest that January 20 be declared National Good Day. We agree.

'Good Day': November 30, 1988?

There is a dissenting opinion, however: Mike B. over on Pandemonium asserts that Ice Cube's good day was on November 30, 1988. His main reason: Ice Cube started dating Kim, his wife, in the summer of 1988. Ice Cube could still have had a pager, though he'd be a relatively early adopter.

What Next for Hip Hop History Research?

His next mission should be to determine when, exactly, Fuck Wit Dre Day is; because, apparently, everybody was celebrating.
