Mark your calendars, pancake enthusiasts.... in honor of National Pancake Day (not a stat holiday, alas) IHOP (International House of Pancakes) will be giving away free pancakes during the breakfast hours, requesting that customers donate the price of the pancakes to local charities.

I found this story almost by mistake, as the LA Times ran a quick story about people Googling "IHOP":

The No. 1 search term on Google this morning is "ihop," as in the International House of Pancakes. Apparently breakfast is on the table, just not the one folks have at home. Mom not mixing up a fresh batch? No matter, just jump in the SUV and head to IHOP, Waffle House (No. 9) or Denny's (No. 10).
Late to the game, LA Times! The #1 term for most of the morning was "iTunes", since so many people got a you-know-what for Christmas.

Still, I bet Sean Gallagher, who wrote the article quoted above, was actually doing something non-web-related during the wee hours of the morning (PST), so he has a valid excuse.

Nice for them to do this, but I doubt I'll be going back to them anytime soon after the poor service and low-quality food I've had the past couple of visits.

Recently, and as a visiting Canadian, while having provided great service, IHOP's was truly, the nastiest (mass-produced-out-of-a-can) food I have ever eaten. Culture indeed. Mind you, and while their socks could easily be pulled up relative to providing quality product, as an extension of the great service experienced, I think it's dandy they're encouraging that charity thing.

I took this photograph at the ihop in Foster City California. This is an HDR (high dynamic range) shot which is basically three images of different exposures fused together.

I was in Denver for a weekend trip to see Opeth at the Ogden Theatre, we flew all the way from Mexico City and you bet it was tiring. We enjoyed a delightful breakfast @ IHoP, sure gave me enough energy for headbanging the whole concert :). Too bad we only have one in Mexico City and too far from my place.

I went out to San Francisco to see my friend Sarah in Sept 2008. One of the main purposes to go was to have breakfast with Sarah at IHOP. It was great! I'm the guy jumping in front of IHOP in the picture set here. More pics on my Flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisandbabs/sets/72157600924618872/
