It's hard for an avowed atheist to get excited about the pontiff, however, it still was an event to witness... everybody seemed "jacked up" for the moments and expected mere glimpses of the Pope as he rode by, waving and the gathered public, followed, more interestingly by an interesting motorcade, including SWAT teams, Cardinals in a few rented buses, and an ambulance. It's a little dreadful to consider that this entourage follows this single guy EVERYWHERE he goes... barring, possibly, the bathroom.
