Part-time bowler Yuvraj Singh took quick three wickets to help India fightback after Alex Hales smashed a quickfire 56 in the first Twenty20 match at Pune.
Ashok Dinda also performed with the ball, picking up two wickets in the 19th over. He dismissed Jos Buttler and Tim Bresnan.
Jos Buttler smashed 33 off 21 balls to steer England to after they lost wickets at regular interval.
After ten overs, England lost Hales, who was bowled by Yuvraj and one ball later he dismissed skipper Eoin Morgan.
England have set a target of 158 for India.
Earlier, England lost opener Michael Lumb early in the match when Ravichandran Ashwin trapped him leg before wicket.
However, Hales and Luke Wright (34) gave the visitors solid start. Hales smashed two big sixes and seven fours.
Indian bowlers except Ashwin were economical. MS Dhoni surprised the commentators when he got Virat Kohli to bowl.
