Indian classical dancer Gitanjali tops in Competition

Bhubaneswar-based young dancer Gitanjali Acharya, disciple of the internationally-acclaimed Odissi danseuse Sujata Mohapatra, emerged as the topper in the 3rd annual State-level Naveen Kalakar Odissi dance competition and festival hosted here by Orissa Samskruti Academy and Devdasi Nrutya Mandir in association with the Department of Culture of Government of Orissa and Muscat-based A.K. Parija Presentations. The competition was held among the young dancers of the State in the age group of 18-25.



Sachikant Pradhan, a budding male dancer from Orissa Dance Academy (ODA), finished second while Arupa Gayatri Panda of ODA and Lucky Mohanty, disciple of eminent dancer Kumkum Mohanty were joint winners of the third position.

Geetanjali Acharya, under the far famed Guru Ratikant Mohapatra got her initial training in Odissi dance. She is regarded as one of the senior disciples of "Srijan". Later on she bagged the honor of receiving the advanced training under the great tutelage of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Under the Orissa Sangeet Natak Academy, Geetanjali Acharya finished her Nrutya Shastri Purna. She has bagged the honor of performing even outside the Indian State Orissa as one of the part of Srijan`s repertoire group.
