Indian village celebrates Oscar success of Smile Pinky

Residents of Dabai village in Indian state of Uttar Pradesh are celebrating the winning the best documentary award of ''Smile Pinky'' at the OSCARS AWARDS, since it is based on the life of a girl with a lip deformity in their village.

American flm maker Megan Mylan's Smile Pinky, the story of a girl with a cleft lip, was one of four films nominated for best short documentary. It depicts the saga of Pinky, 6, who becomes an outcast because of her deformity. In the 39-minute film, the girl from Dabai village in Uttar Pradesh state of India undergoes corrective surgery and gets a normal life.

The made in India documentary ‘Smile Pinky’ won an Oscar in the ‘Best Short Documentary’ category at the 81st Academy Awards declared in Los Angeles on February 22.

‘Smile Pinky’ is the story of a child with a lip deformity. The film had been nominated along with four other documentaries at the famed Academy Awards.

Residents of Dabai village in Uttar Pradesh’s Ahura district have been praying for the success of the documentary ‘Smile Pinky’ at the Oscars, since it is based on the life of a girl belonging to their village.

The film by Megan Mylan depicts the saga of six-year-old Pinky who becomes a social outcast because of a cleft lip. In the 39-minute documentary, the girl from this obscure village of Uttar Pradesh, undergoes corrective surgery and gets a normal childhood.

This is a great story. Let's hope that the Oscar win will inspire people to seek out this film.

This is the best way to earn money....... common we have Polio...malnutrition....TB ...HIV AIDS...child abuse and many such poor things to cover and oppertunity to win ..or atleast get nominated to oscar...as we know that world lovw to see poor INDIA....dats why a ordinary movie like "slumdog mill..." wins so many oscar....

This is fun while earn and the sure shot way to enter international market of entertainment...the reason why a simple movie like "slumdog Mil..." got Fleet of Oscar BECOZ THEY LOVE TO See poor India...so best of luck u can work on polio...beggers....prostitute...hiv aids....one eye...TB..and many more....India is full of oppertunitis...Thumbs Up...
