International Talk Like a Pirate Day 2009 is taking place on Saturday, September 19. As you may know, Talk Like a Pirate Day entails talking like a pirate, all day. Pretty straightforward. You don't just have to stop at talking like a pirate on Talk Like a Pirate Day. No, siree. You can tell pirate jokes on TLAP Day. You can give yourself a cool pirate name on TLAP day. You can also drink like a pirate, though your workplace may frown on such behavior. Either way, here are some Talk Like a Pirate Day 2009 resources:

By the way, "avast" means "stop".

Here at NowPublic, we're no strangers to covering Talk Like a Pirate Day, and we've done so last yeeaarrh, the yeeaarrh before, and the yeeaarrh before that.

Why do we need an International Talk Like a Pirate Day?

Make no mistake. We do. But it's a little hard to articulate why, especially when you've made the mistake of referring to your wife as a scurvy bilge rat and tried to order her back into the galley.

Talking like a pirate is fun. It's really that simple.

For example, had the VMAs taken place on September 19, Kanye West would have said, "Avast, ye bilge rats, an' take heed o' Beyonce!"
