Internet dating: Dating Direct couple happy after 6 years
Living in the countryside, in the middle of nowhere, and not being near anyone remotely interested in my political beliefs and interests, I had used internet dating sites, such as Match, Dating Direct and Plenty of Fish.
This was at a time when 'internet dating' was viewed as 'suspect' but nowadays seems to be completely normal.
I didn't have too many bad dates, though they were more unsuitable than bad. I didn't meet them early on but spent a long time emailing to and fro. I think this helped weed out 'the rot'. I had my fair share of sleazebag emails and lazy round robin messages, but they were chucked in Trash.
I went on a few dates with some, but found no one suitable for me. However, some guys were really interesting and fun, so there were no regrets. There were some rich ones but generally speaking, they were the worst, their lives revolved round their work and they had few interests, although 'the slap up dinners' were great.
After a year of trawling dating sites, I finally met my guy. We have similar political beliefs, values, sports, religion and sense of humour - and he doesn't look a right scruff!
And what keeps us together for six years, is 'the usual' compromise, sense of humour, tolerance, talking and a few mad adventures.
The best bit is that we live separately and we aren't in each other's way, not that it would be much of a problem anyway, as we do have our own space, but having separate homes, means we can do exactly what we like there, without annoying each other. AND, I don't get to watch much football on the internet or endless Dr Who episodes too. Moderation is everything!
Next year, will be seven years, and the Seven Year Itch, and I think I will get him a medal for putting up with me so long.
