Sunrisers Hyderabad put on a scintillating display to defeat the Mumbai Indians by seven wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Shikhar Dhawan hit a commanding 73 not out, including nine fours and a six, for the Sunrisers after the bowlers had restricted Mumbai to 129 from their 20 overs.
Mumbai elected to bat first after winning the toss and made a positive start with Dwayne Smith hitting a boundary off the first ball. He followed up in the third over with the first six of the match from Ishant Sharma's bowling.
But in the fifth over Ishant Sharma took two wickets as he first bowled Tendulkar (14) before Dinesh Karthik was caught by Karan Sharma at point for a duck to leave Mumbai on 32-2. Rohit Sharma then hit consecutive boundaries as Mumbai made 41 from their power play.
Smith was given a reprieve on 25 when he was dropped by Ishant Sharma. Rohit Sharma (22) was caught by Ishant Sharma off Amit Mishra's bowling in the 13th over and just four balls later Smith (38) was trapped lbw by the right-arm spinner.
Kieron Pollard (14 not out) and Ambati Rayudu (34 not out) struggled to score late on thanks to some tight bowling by the Sunrisers attack, but they did score 16 runs in the final over to finish on 129 for four.
In response, Dhawan hit two boundaries off Dhawal Kulkarni's bowling in the second over, but in the third Mitchell Johnson took the wicket of Akshath Reddy for seven with Smith taking the catch.
Sunrisers made 36 runs from their power play overs, including two wonderful strokes from Kumar Sangakkara.
Dhawan hit Harbhajan Singh for six before Sangakkara (21) was caught and bowled by Singh. With 10 overs remaining the Sunrisers still required 69 runs. Three boundaries followed in the 12th over before Dhawan reached his 50 with a cover drive off Lasith Malinga.
Hamuma Vihari fell in the 18th over for 25 when he was caught by Rayudu off Kulkarni's bowling but they safely reached their target with 12 balls remaining.
