ISAAC HAYES --- LIFE TIME THING

The funeral for soul singer Isaac Hayes will be held this coming Monday, August 18th, in Cordova, TN, just outside of Memphis. As NowPublic previously reported, the singer died last Sunday of a stroke, at the age of 65.

The funeral arrangements for legendary musician Isaac Hayes were announced Wednesday. The funeral will take place in Memphis on Monday.

The memorial service for Isaac Hayes will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday morning at Hope Presbyterian Church, which is located at 8500 Walnut Grove Rd. in Cordova, TN, a suburb of Memphis.

Hayes, who was best known for his work on the "Shaft" soundtrack, died at age 65 last Sunday of a stroke. Hayes was found dead inside his Memphis home. At that time, the cause of death was unknown until reports on Wednesday determined that he suffered a stroke.

You will be missed, he was one of the few singers that you rarely heard any drama from, he was the real shaft baby!!!

Isaac Hayes puts his autograph on a Gibson guitar that was autioned for the benefit of the students of The Stax Music Academy. Novella Smith Arnold looks on. They are in the lobby of a Memphis recording studio. More information and other photos can be found at this link:

Isaac Hayes was such a nice guy. We talked for a long time, and he was gracious and funny. We met him when he appeared on the local talk show I was directing at the time, Focus on Diversity. I took this pic of him with my wife Denise (who was working on the show as a camera operator and makeup artist) after we had finished taping the program. He will be missed.

These photos are from the lobby of BMI-Nashville. David Porter, in the white shirt, and Issac Hayes were presented with a songwriter award, unfortunately I don't remember the details. It was September 2006. Issac actually said "Hey, how ya doin'?" and shook my hand. Great moment!

He was a little thing and a little frail but he was all Black Moses!

hello, it was last year for Blues passion, Cognac, France, 2007. It was a great concert but he seems to be sick, very slow. But I was in front of a legend, the voice !! very impressive.

I took this photo at The Big Chill concert at Eastnor, UK, last year. I was actually there with to photograph Abram Wilson, so. I am a friend of Rhonda Thomas (pic of Rhonda and band members backstage). I asked Mr Hayes if I could take a few pics of him before he went on stage and he said no problem. We will be greatly missed. A legend.

I was lucky enough to get quite near to the front to see the great man perform. He was superb. It wasn't until I read his obituary that I realised what a great life he had, including being an honorary Ghanaian King!

I also have video footage of this performance.

Bill Hicks - I can answer your question about Scientology funerals.

The following is quoted from AllExperts:

Scientology has a number of different funeral ceremonies which might be said over the remains of the deceased or, indeed, might be given more as as sermon, or memorial, at a service with or without physical remains present.

There is no rule as to when, or in what manner, physical remains are disposed of, as we attach fairly little meaning to the physical form. Scientology views the sprititual self, what we refer to as the "thetan" (From the Greek letter Theta), as being the individual, and views the body as a vehicle - the means whereby we interact with each other and the physical universe.

The Scientology funeral service tends to be focused on thanking the departed for spending time with us, praising or acknowledging life attributes or achievments, bidding them farewell, and wishing them well in their future existence.

See also this on the Funeral Service from Scientology: Theology and Practice of a Contemporary Religion, and this Eulogy written by L. Ron Hubbard.

I hope that helps,
Sam

This pictures were taken in 1989. My husband and I had a party in Oisterwijk, The Netherlands, because of the fact that we were married 12 1/2 years. Unfortunately Isaac had a performance on the same evening here in The Netherlands, so we could not go to join it. We are fans from the early seventies, so it was a pity. Thanks to my sister who had  written Isaac, we had a wonderfull evening!! Isaac himself and his engineer came after his show to congratulate us and het stayed more than an hour at the party!!! It was such a great  surprise to us! And it is still a precious memory! Later that week we had the opportunity to go to a concert of Isaac in Belgium, and after that he invited us backstage!! In august 2007 we went to London to see Ike again, the very last time. In october 2007 we went to Memphis and visited the Staxmuseum and Isaac's Restaurant and Shop. We regretted that both were closed.

Dear Isaac, rest in peace.
