Despite the massive bomb blast that ripped across Marriott Hotel in Islamabad on Saturday evening in which scores of people lost their lives or got injured, the commitment and resilience of some citizens who remain involved in teaching peace and tolerance amongst children motivated them to hold activities in connection with the UN International Day of Peace on Sunday. One such organization is Funkor, run by a brilliant and committed woman called Fauzia Minallah - an artist, author and peace-activist.

Apparently, these slum children that Funkor invited to paint a mural had never painted before, and could only think of making a mural depicting flowers. A 13 year old boy, Eid Wali, hailing from Kohat said: children are like flowers. take care of them, do not trample them...let them bloom!

Islamabad

Children of a squatter settlement in Sector F-12 condemned the terrorist activities around the globe by painting a mural to mark the International Day of Peace here Sunday.

The event was organised by the Funkor Child Art Centre and participated by the poverty stricken children of the slums to express their desire for global peace.

On the occasion of UN International Day of Peace, the children prepared the mural titled ‘Prayer for Peace for the Innocent Victims of Violence’ to raise awareness about the pain and suffering of the innocent victims of war and terrorism, and children in poverty.

Through art, the children expressed their solidarity with the internally displaced children due to terrorism and those who have lost their loved ones in the numerous events of terrorism in Pakistan, especially the recent devastating attack in Islamabad on the eve of the International Day of Peace.

Funkor also organised a book reading session in an informal school ‘Nai Kiran’. Safia Khan read out the story of ‘Sadako’s Prayer’, written and illustrated by Fauzia Aziz Minallah and published by Asian Network of Trust, Hiroshima. The story is about Sadako Sasaki, an innocent victim of war who died of cancer due to the atomic radiation after the Hiroshima bombing during World War II.

Funkor uses the medium of art to extend children’s outlook and awareness of the concepts of environment and heritage protection, human rights, equality, tolerance and peace.

UN International Day of Peace supposed to be celebrated on September 11th  , then early morning the day of  recognition, we had 9/11 attack and the event was moved to 21 September. Now we have another attack just the day before the celebration? Hmmm…

To make the situation worse not even one single mass media wrote an article about UN international Day of Peace? I wonder who is the man behind the mask, not wanting peace while all citizens of the world are beginning for peace?

Note: The UN Internation Day of Peace marked every year on September 21 is a global holiday when individuals, communities, nations and governments agree on this day to lay down their arms….

its is really a good story about the spirit of peace, it is said peace is most disturbing thing for politicians they hate it from the bottom of their heart, so we can easily conclude why this world seems to be so divided with conflict of every kind.
