Stamina" is the perfect name for the 13th and latest studio record from roots reggae duo Israel Vibration.

When the group, initially a trio comprising Lascelle "Wiss" Bulgin, Albert "Apple Gabriel" Craig, and Cecil "Skelly" Spence, appeared on the scene in late 1970s, their music was inspiring and engaging. Because its members met at a polio rehabilitation center, the group also seemed unlikely.

But the group recorded three brilliant records - "Same Song," "Unconquered People" and "Why You So Craven" - before parting in 1981. A few years later, Washington D.C.'s RAS Records enlisted the three to record "Strength of Your Nature," a record as essential as its predecessors.

Although Craig later left to embark on a solo career, the band soldiered on to became one of the most popular Jamaican touring and recording acts abroad. Their devout faith and their socially-conscious lyrics -- as well as their dedication to a live band instead of computerized rhythms -- meant that Israel Vibration was, and is, a beacon in a music scene often dipping into misogyny and gun lyrics.

"Stamina" continues that tradition, wedding Bulgin and Spence's distinctive and emotive voices to heavy rhythms and thoughtful lyrics.

As part of the tour promoting "Stamina," issued by Tafari Records in 2007, Israel Vibration plays at Turner Hall Ballroom at 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 22. The duo will be backed by long-time cohorts and Jamaican recording session stalwarts Roots Radics.

reggaewire, I think your story has potential but needs some improvement. I've got a few suggestions, and if you give them a try, I'd be happy to remove this flag.

I wasnt sure what was newsworthy in this story. News should always be about posting current stuff - new things you've discovered.

@ reggaewire .... This is their first release in 5 years (not "nearly a decade"). Would be key to note as well that Tyrone Downie (Wailers) is producing this album.
