It is unlikely that any one in Pakistan remains untouched by the current wedding season. You may not be getting married yourself, or have a close member of the family or a friend getting married either, but it is highly probable that someone you know or her/his daughter/son/sister/brother/niece/nephew must be getting married during this month. It is not the month of 'August' which has anything to do with this wedding madness going around, but it is the pre-Ramazan rush. The Islamic month of fasting - Ramazan - begins in a month's time, and no weddings take place then. So the tailors are busy right now and so are all the other professionals directly or indirectly related with the preparation frenzy that goes on in families where a wedding is about to take place. Pakistani weddings are notorious for their extravagance and the guest list reaches the 500 to a thousand mark, so no neighbour, no friend, no relative remains uninvited. This huge and colourful occasion is not just a day-long affair either. Various customs and rituals are a tradition that most brides and bridegrooms look forward to. A happy time for all!
