NP Rank:
It's Official, The Golden Globes Are Cancelled
THE LATEST: It's official - there will be no telecast of the Golden Globe Awards. Just a press conference that, hopefully, will still feature the plasticized participation of a drunken Joan Rivers asking all the right questions (see video).
...the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Monday that the festive awards dinner will be replaced by a news conference at 9 p.m. Eastern time next Sunday night to announce the actual winners of the 65th annual Golden Globes awards.
“We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favorite stars,” Jorge Camara, president of the association, said in a statement.
There may be parties and some celebration for the winners later, but the red-carpeted, black-tied event itself will not go on, brought down by the threat of pickets from the Writers Guild of America and the vow from the members from the Screen Actors Guild not to cross those lines.
PREVIOUSLY: No official word yet, but the rumours are looking to become reality. But if you're still hoping for a televised red-carpet blowout, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Hollywood Foreign Press Association is set to announce that the Jan. 13
show will not be televised as originally planned.
The Los Angeles Times reported the ceremony cancellation on its
website. Citing an e-mail sent by broadcasters to studios on Monday,
the paper reported that the traditional televised dinner and
prize-giving had been scrapped in favour of a press conference and
scaled-back red carpet event.
No official statement has been made by either NBC or the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.[/q]

of the awards gala, NBC will screen clips and interviews with nominees
ahead of the announcement, then have its news department cover an
hour-long press conference in which winners will be announced, the L.A.
Times said. NBC News is not affected by the writers' strike.[/q]
FIRST NEWS: Perhaps just a rumour...but a juicy one nevertheless!
The Hollywood writers strike can now claim its first awards show casualty. The latest I'm hearing from my sources as of a few minutes ago is that NBC will not be televising the Golden Globes as planned on January 13th. Insiders tell me also that the entire event, even if it were held untelevised, will be cancelled. And the Hollywood Foreign Press Association instead will merely make an announcement of the winners. I've not yet received any official confirmation of any of this. But insiders tell me that NBC Universal topper Jeff Zucker and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association which bestows the Golden Globes made the decision together.

Having no writers was going to be the reason I watched the Golden Globes this year. AHHH!
