Allen Iverson the 11-time NBA All-Star and former MVP played his first game for his new Turkish ball club Tuesday and scored 15 points in a 94-91 loss. This isn't just about basketball its about a man who can elevate the culture that he's its all-time Most Influential Person and make it a global phenomenon.

July 2012 will be proclaimed as the 1st GBHHCM (Global Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month). Iverson with his move to Turkey will help spark this national celebration into a global one.

This past June 2010 16 major US cities and 1 state (Maryland) proclaimed NBHHCM (National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month). The hoops and hip-hop cultural celebration has roots that go as far back as the late 1970's but took notice on a National scene in 1984.

Iverson came into the league in 1996. He was branded as the "Tupac of the NBA". All eyes were on the No.1 pick from Georgetown University. The basketball and hip-hop cultural connection was mainly relegated to the neighborhood and playgrounds. It was part of the NBA and hip-hop landscape on a low scale but wasn't mainstream until he took the court. That is when the culture became pop-culture in America. Michael Jordan started something big in 1984 and Allen Iverson made it bigger.

Shaquille O'Neal was the first to introduce the NBA to hip-hop when he made a cameo with the rap group Fu-Shickens in 1992 with song "What's Up Doc." He was a 7ft., 300 pound, rapper and break dancer. O'Neal also was the 1st pick of the 1992 NBA Draft.

Chris Webber like Shaq had the hip-hop culture swagger as a member of the Michigan Fab Five and became the 1st pick of the 1993 NBA draft. Webber and his college team-mates made shaved heads (like Jordan), extra-long shorts, and black socks very popular with the young hip-hop community. Webber sported a high-top fade hair-cut and said he wanted to be like popular rapper Big Daddy Kane.

Kevin Garnett in 1995 made a move that shook the basketball and hip-hop culture world when he decided to skip college and declare himself for the NBA Draft. He was the 5th overall pick and is now a future Hall-of-Fame player.

Iverson's new role will be as Global Ambassador to the hoops and hip-hop culture. He will be able to travel the world and show his icon status to the culture. Kids from all-around the world will play basketball and rap in their native language. Some will even get tattoos and rock du-rags with baseball caps.

All-Stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul wear the #3 jersey just like Iverson. LeBron James wears a shooter's sleeve, headband, and has tattoos just like Iverson. Some will argue now that James is more like Iverson than Jordan. His good friend is hip-hop icon Jay-Z.

Allen Iverson's legend will grow to a higher level when stops playing basketball and people remember that he changed the style of the game off the court more than he did on it.
