News of Michael Jackson's death  first came from the internet and not from TV news anchor.

TMZ.com was the first website to release the news of the 50 year-old pop star's death. But it was only after the more established news organisations confirmed the singer's death did many believe TMZ's report.

The celebrity web site TMZ.com. broke the news of Jackson's death at 7.20am Melbourne time.

It was a huge scoop for the AOL-owned TMZ, though many did not believe TMZ's report until it was matched by more established news organisations.

The co-founder of Twitter said there were over twice the normal tweets per second the moment the story broke as people shared their grief and memories.

"We saw over twice the normal tweets per second the moment the story broke as people shared their grief and memories," Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said in an e-mail.

With an overwhelming number of searchers wanting to verify the early reports of Jackson's death that the computers running Google's news section interpreted the fusillade of "Michael Jackson" requests as an automated attack.

As a defense mechanism, Google's news section responded to requests for information about Michael Jackson with squiggly letters known as a "captcha."

The autopsy is going to be like going into a haunted house, you never know what you'll find.

True Master_Jim.

I read an interesting article about a senior Russian mufti's comments regarding Michael Jackson's autopsy.

MOSCOW, June 26 (RIA Novosti) - Performing autopsies on famous Muslims such as Michael Jackson is acceptable in order to establish their cause of death, a senior Russian mufti told RIA Novosti on Friday.

"He was a great world figure who worked for the sake of love and peace. His work belongs to the entire world community. And now doctors and specialists must have their say," said Damir Gizatullin, the deputy head of the Council of Russian Muftis.

Jackson, who died in Los Angeles on Thursday of a heart attack at the age of 50, is believed to have accepted Islam in 2007.

Thanks for the update.

That would be easy to explain, since The Press has to be able to verify all its sources wish the net does not have to.

It could have been a hoax as well and then the media would have looked really foolish.

You were right.  TMZ.com does a good job on getting accurate information.  For a tabloid, they have shown to be a good news source at times.  The LA Times was reporting that MJ was in a 'coma' just by looking at MJ as he left in an ambulance.  I would expect that as NP did with Huricanne Katrina and the Mumbai Terrorist attacks that News 2.0 will be more often then not the first to report breaking news.

I think this is one reason that TMZ is unlike other tabloids because they do tend to give out accurate reports Politisite. I think TMZ.com just proved that first hand news reported from the internet can be true.
