James Franco on General Hospital: Actor Joins Soap Opera Cast

James Franco is headed for General Hospital. He'll play a recurring role on the long-running ABC daytime series for two months staring November 20. The move has shocked considering that Franco is a major Hollywood star who had a major role in the Oscar-nominated film Milk.

Franco's General Hospital character was described by producers as a nemesis for Jason Morgan, General Hospital's resident crook.

So why would an established Hollywood actor like James Franco join a soap opera like General Hospital?

A source says he simply wanted to give soaps a try, and thus reached out to ABC’s ‘GH.’ That Franco and Burton, his soon-to-be on-screen nemesis, share a manager is pure coincidence.

Franco has some experience working in TV. He got his break working on Judd Apatow's Freaks and Geeks back in 1999. He went on to roles in the Spider-Man films and Milk. Earlier this year James Franco was nominated for his work in the comedy Pineapple Express.

I love him, but he does make some odd acting choices. That said, if he wants to be on a soap then I'm going to start watching it.
