James Mitchell Dies from All My Children: His Character Palmer Cortlandt Honored By Cast

Actor James Mitchell died on January 22 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which was complicated by pneumonia. James Mitchell was best known for the character of Palmer Cortlandt on All My Children and now his character is going to be remembered by the rest of the cast as they discover Palmer Cortlandt has passed away.

Friends and family of Palmer Cortlandt on the show will gather to remember him,

James Mitchell had filmed some scenes for the 40th anniversary of All My Children before his death and he not only filmed the scripted material, but he wanted the cameras to be kept rolling so that he could ad lib in character.

It is this ad libbed material from James Mitchell that will be used in the upcoming episode.

Actor James Mitchell joined the cast of All My Children in 1979 and retired 30 years later in 2009.

He appeared in more than 300 episodes.

Albert Wolsky, James Mitchell's long-time partner, announced the news that Mitchell had passed away, which came as a shock to friends, family and fans.

All My Children have decided to honor one of their longest running cast members in a moving and unique way. When soap operas have been running for as long as this one has, there are bound to be cast members that pass away as they grow older, but it is still shocking to fans to know that one of their regular cast members will not be coming back. Even though James Mitchell had retired in 2009 he still did return for the anniversary show, but will not get another opportunity to do so.
