NP Rank:
James Spader Named CEO of NBC's TV Show The Office
NBC reported on Wednesday that emmy-award winning actor James Spader has joined the cast of "The Office" and will be playing Robert California, the new CEO of Sabre--the parent company of Dundler Mifflin.
Spader will be reprising the role of California. The character appeared in this year's season finale as a manipulative salesperson vying for Michael's job as manager. When the show airs its new season this fall, it will be revealed that California landed the manager job over the summer but quickly moves up in the ranks.
Series regular Paul Lieberstein stated:
He'll have been hired over the summer as the new manager, but within hours, got himself promoted. Within days, he took over the company. James has an energy that is completely his own, and 'The Office' has no tools for dealing with this guy...We're thrilled he's joining our cast.
Spader has won three Emmy's for his role as Alan Shore on "The Practice" and "Boston Legal," which makes him the only actor ever to win consecutive Emmy's for playing the same character on two completely different TV shows.

He can do offhand comedy, too: just check out Secretary. Don't watch it with your parents, though.
