LOS ANGELES - Britney Spears' 16-year-old sister, who stars as a schoolgirl in Nickelodeon's popular TV show "Zoey 101," is pregnant.

The cable channel confirmed a report in the forthcoming edition of celebrity gossip magazine OK! that Jamie Lynn Spears is expecting a child.

"We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being," Nickelodeon said in a statement e-mailed to Reuters.

A high school student who lives in Louisiana, Jamie Lynn Spears reportedly met the father, Casey Aldridge (18), the son of a Tennessee papermill worker, at church. Jamie Lynn Spears' personal publicist was not available for comment.

Her big sister, Britney Spears, may not be the best source of parenting advice. The 26-year-old pop star lost primary custody of her two sons, aged two and one, to ex-husband Kevin Federline after their divorce last year and is engaged in a bitter custody battle that has shone a harsh spotlight on her maternal shortcomings.

"Zoey 101," which wrapped production on its fourth and final season in September, revolves around a headstrong student at a co-ed boarding school in California. Fresh episodes will air through 2008, a spokeswoman for the Viacom Inc-owned network said.

pop star, who's been outrageously bratty to her family this year, was
apparently kept in the dark on the news, while her ex, le K-Fed,
knew, Page Six reports. "Lynne wanted Kevin to be prepared when Britney
found out," the paper reports. Apparently Britney calls Kevin in
moments of crisis, despite their vicious custody battle. After the news
broke on Tuesday, Britney was seen shopping at Lisa Kline, a high-end
women's clothing store in Beverly Hills. The store's rep told People that Britney bought Christmas presents for both her mom and sister.

It
would be a Christmas miracle if this news brought the Spears family
closer together. Jamie Lynn's already talking like she appreciates the
heavy responsibility of motherhood, a contrast to Britney, who calls
her kids her "religion" but thinks nothing about smoking within arms
reach of them. Maybe Jamie Lynn can pass some of her sage 16-year-old
wisdom on to Britney.

My Opinon

16 year old passing on wisdom to Britney, Oh friggin Puleese, Choo- Whoooo, Chooo Whooo whats that sound? Thats Britneys noon train barrelling into Jaimie's station.

Thanks Brian, one wonders how this will play out, as Spears plays a much younger teen on this show, a role model for preteen girls everywhere I am sure. I cannot believe they will keep her on the show as her pregnancy develops.

Of course, they could do one of those SOB stories on the show on the hazards of teen pregnancy in order to keep sleaze ratings in an all time high. One never accuses of Producers of searching for a Platinum Lining in someone elses tragedy.

Hey Barry, the article actually says they're done filming, which means its in editing and post-production so her pregnancy won't be a factor. They've also said it's the final season, I wonder if this has anything to do with it!

Don't be too sure, when money talks, bullshit walks, in their quest for circulation figures, I am sure they will put on a positivie spin in order to get it publishes, such as Tragic teens pregnancy, Jaimie Lynn story inside, just watch and see, money will be made out of this, including spears people and hanger oners

I reckon that teen mags will have to deal with it in some way, even if they'd rather avoid it. Perhaps how People deals with celebrity drug addiction: like it's something that just falls from the sky and afflicts random pretty people.

Sixteen year old girls have been getting pregnant for many moons now; the fact that this one is Britney's younger sister simply heightens a pretty common situation. I feel bad for her.

The mother in all this is a big part of the train wreck. She worked to sell the story to OK magazine, making a profit off of child pregnancy. And that is what Jaimie Lynn is, a child herself. Big sis is no example to follow, so hopefully J.L. will work to do the opposite and actually become a responsible mom. At least she has the funds to (hopefully) properly care for the child although she won't have the maturity to deal with motherhood in every way. While I know having a child matures a person, it is still a heavy responsibility that even older parents have difficulty dealing with.
