On the occasion of international womens day large number of women gathered for Jaunpur Women Mela organised by women committee of village kempty in association with SIDH. The women from various villages came in large numbers to participate in the festival.Madhu Chauhan Zila Panchayat president Dehradun was he chief guest on the occasion. She was greeted by women of the region with a display of cultural folk dance and music specially prepared for the occasion of International Women’s day festivities.Anuradha secretary of SIDH said on the occasion that women has taken immense stride towards progress but majority are still suffering albeit the claims made by govt.The problem of female infanticide and feticide killing was still prevalent in the society. She also reiterated the fact that the three major issues of Food, shelter and Clothing should be addressed on priority basis.

Darian Shaw the student of sociology and anthropology from Seattle who was also participant in the women Mela in Kempty said on the occasion that women of Mountains are very strong and thay do everything from grassroot level and they are very knowledgeble.She also said that govt all over the world are male centric in formulating guidelines and policy. Women need more autonomy for empowerment in the world.The women also put their stalls on the occasion and enjoyed nail polishing and mingling with each other on the occasion.Madhu Chauhan Congratulated women on the occasion and said that they all should work to achieve the goals in context of women in unison.The women of the villages were so enthusuastic for the mela that they could valuable time for it to come to Kempty from far and wide and the tradtitonal clothing added colour and festive look on the occasion.

Thanks, Azzay - I like the photos which relay the joy and freedom of the participants. How great that they can do this in public without restriction while their sisters in some other countries must remain in shame behind a veil.
