Award Winning Jeff Healy dies of Cancer, a Cancer which took his eye sight so many years ago as a child. One can be sure there will be many Guitar players gently weeping".
ENTERTAINMENT COLUMNIST
Legendary Toronto blues guitarist and old-style jazz aficionado Jeff Healey died Sunday in Toronto’s St. Joseph’s Hospital after a lifelong battle with a rare form of cancer — retinoblastoma — that blinded him in his first year. He was 41.
“Discovered” in a Toronto club in 1982 by Texas blues guitarist, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, Healey astonished music fans with his outrageous technique. Self-taught by age 4, he laid the electric guitar across his lap and played it in much the same way as a pianist manipulates a keyboard.

A close friend of mine recalls riding the bus to school in Etobicoke, and a young Jeff Healey sitting in the back seat, guitar across his lap, practicing. Always practicing. He was an incredible musician, and an amazing man.

He was an amazingly talented musician, I wish I'd had the opportunity to see him perform live. I loved his work with the Jazz Wizards. Rest in Peace.

I saw The Jeff Healey Band performing at the Town and Country Club in London, 1989. A superb performance - a photograph has been uploaded to this site. This concert was also released on video - under the title "The Jeff Healey Band: See the Light - Live from London". Well worth sourcing.

Wasn't he in that movie 'RoadHouse' with Patrick Swayze? He was great, great sense of humor, great music! Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff.
