Jenna Bush Hager, the daughter of former US President George W. Bush, has been hired as a special correspondent for NBC's "Today" Show.

Hager, who works as a schoolteacher in Baltimore, will contribute monthly reports on education for the popular morning program.

Jenna Bush Hager will work part-time for the Today Show while working as a reading coordinator at a local school.

Today Show executive producer Jim Bell said that he was inspired to hire Jenna Bush Hager after she made two appearances on the Today Show to promote her children's book.

Bell said Hager won't be covering politics. He said he didn't consider the job as a down payment for a future interview with her father, who has been living quietly in Texas since leaving office earlier this year. Attacks on NBC News by conservatives for the liberal bent of MSNBC also had nothing to do with it, he said. "I hope to focus on what I'm passionate about because I think I'd do them best job on them - education, urban education, women and children's issues and literacy," Hager said.

Jenna Bush seems more competent than her father and I wish her luck on her new job. This is obviously a ploy to increase ratings so we will see what happens.
