Jennifer Garner to Star in Miss Marple 'Reboot'

Disney is trying to bring Miss Marple to a whole new audience by making it... well, not Miss Marple. The megastudio is casting Jennifer Garner to star as Jane Marple in what it is calling a "Miss Marple reboot", and is changing the setting to modern-day America.

So.

We have an Agatha Christie series about an elderly, tweed-wearing Englishwoman, usually portrayed as being between 50 and 70, being remade as a modern-day story about a younger American woman. Surely this would work better if Disney called it a Veronica Mars reboot. At least it would begin to make some shred of sense.

Quick note to Disney: to qualify as a reboot or remake, it must retain some element of the original story. For example, remaking Batman to feature a fourteen-year-old girl fighting crime in the New Mexico exurbs does not qualify as remaking Batman. Of course, Batman is being rebooted, but that's not important right now.

Laura Barnett at The Telegraph calls the casting move "a travesty", and I agree. I must quote Ricky Romance and say, "Correct that shit!"
