Jennifer Hudson Lip-Syncs National Anthem at Super Bowl

Continuing in the hallowed American tradition of paradoxically pre-recorded "live performances", Jennifer Hudson's "dazzling" return to the Super Bowl stage to perform the national anthem was tightly lip-synced, over fears that a truly live performance could be "devastated" by "even the slightest glitch".
Alas, gone are the days of singers actually singing. What does it say about your performance when your so-called big comeback is little more than mouthing along to the words.
But then again, I guess that's the way most people "sing" the national anthem anyway.
Following Jennifer Hudson's dazzling Super Bowl rendition of the national anthem on Sunday, the show's producer, American Idol music director Ricky Minor, told the Associated Press that the Oscar winner had lip-synched the song, singing along to a backing track. He also said Faith Hill, who sang "America the Beautiful" before Hudson, also used a backing track; the tracks were submitted to the NFL one week before the game.
"That's the right way to do it," Minor said. "There's too many variables to go live. I would never recommend any artist go live, because the slightest glitch would devastate the performance."

its not really little more than mouthing to words, because she did record the song. I think we should give her a break she's been through a lot.

You can't blame her, that's how it sounds and too Jarrett you sound a little sarcastic. If that's the way it's done that's the way it's done. Everybody is so fast to criticize the US.

Lame. Lame. Lame. If she can sing, which we know she can, they why can't she? If you can't do it live, then don't. Yeah she had a tough year, and this is just another Hollywood concoction of hero worship, 'merican style.
Bringing out the pilot and crew of the floating airplane too. Give me a break. The superbowl is always a wonderful reminder that the US is a country on the decline.

I can see how they'd want it to be perfect, so they don't take any chances of it messing up. Guess it's becoming the new trend now, and we'll just have to suck it up. : >(
