Megan Fox is one of the most popular females in Hollywood. Guys love her and...well...that's about it. Still, a movie starring her should equal box office gold. Hence why everyone in Hollywood wants her in their movie. Unfortunately, that didn't turn out to be true. Jennifer's Body opened in 5th place on Friday with $2.8 million. Adding insult to injury, the critics trashed the flick that's written by Academy Award winner Diablo Cody (Juno, United States of Tara) and directed by Karyn Kusama whose credits include the critically acclaimed Girlfight starring Michelle Rodriguez.

However, the movie does have a chance to become a cult hit. It's nowhere near as bad as critics are claiming it to be. Yes, the movie isn't scary nor is it particularly funny either. Yet, believe it or not, it has an intriguing story. People love to criticize Cody, especially after she won the Oscar, but she's a talented writer. Jennifer's Body tells the story of Jennifer (Megan Fox) a sexy and popular high school student who turns into a demon after her body is sacrificed to the devil by an Indie band she become a groupie for. The one who has to stop her is her best friend whose nickname is Needy (Amanda Seyfried). It's the relationship between Jennifer and Needy that makes the movie interesting. Needy is the opposite of Jennifer. She's nerdy, unpopular, and not nearly as attractive. On the surface it seems like Jennifer just hangs out with her to make herself look better. Needy even points out that although her breasts are bigger, Jennifer doesn't like it if she shows them off. Boys should be looking at her chest! So, when Jennifer becomes a demon and starts eating the male population at school it's almost as if the average girl has to stop the superficial popular one. It's a theme/symbolism that's obvious from just watching the trailer and TV spots. That's why Cody throws a curve ball at the audience. Jennifer and Needy could possibly be repressed homosexuals. They live in a small town where that sort of behavior may not be encouraged. So, they can't express their love for one another even though they do a lot of things to give off that vibe. And I'm not just saying that because of the famous make out scene. The movie is loaded with lesbian innuendos which gives off the impression that this a tragic love story. It's all up for debate though.

What cannot be debated though is that Fox's career is off to a bad start. Even if this movie becomes a cult hit it's not going to help things. Her only hits are the two Transformer's which star Shia LaBeouf and CGI robots. As of now, Fox is just a hot girl that guys like and not a proven Hollywood star. Maybe she shouldn't have bad-mouthed Michael Bay. She could benefit from reprising her role for the third installment.

I heard these numbers earlier, I'm surprised too actually, I thought the movie would make way more money.

Not all or even most critics have panned this film. From what I have seen, the reviews have been pretty much divided. Heck, even Roger Ebert loves this film. But, oh, this article is spot on about Jennifer and Needy possibly being repressed homosexuals (despite their seemingly romantic  interest in boys/men as well, which I, however, do not feel that strongly on Needy's side with Chip); I felt this was/is definitely some kind of romance story between them at the same time it is aiming for whatever else it is suppose to be. As for Fox bad-mouthing Michael Bay, I would say he should not have basically started it...all just because she said "Transfomers: Revenge of the Fallen" is more about action than acting. She was jsut being truthful. And what did he have to say? Basically that she is just some 23-year-old kid he "discovered" and she does not know what she is talking about. Harsh.
