An early "home recording" by Jimi Hendrix will be auctioned online at the end of April — and the audio tape is expected to fetch as much as $143,000 USD.

The tape was recorded in New York in 1968 and includes some of the songs from Electric Ladyland along with other unreleased material and a cover of Bob Dylan's song Tears of Rage.

Hendrix's home recordings were brought to London, England where they have remained since.

The recording features 14 tracks, including songs from the 1968 album Electric Ladyland, with the star singing and playing guitar.

The tape was recorded by Hendrix in New York in 1968 and then taken to Britain, according to co-owner Mark Sutherland,

The tape will be sold by memorabilia auctioneer the Fame Bureau on 28 April.

"I don't know how the tapes got from New York to London, but they must have been important if he took them with him," Mr Sutherland said.
