Actor John Costelloe--best known as Johnny Cakes, the short order cook from the Sopranos-- has committed suicide.

A former FDNY firefighter, Costelloe died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on Dec. 16.

The 47-year-old actor made a memorable four-episode appearance on "The Sopranos" in 2006, playing a gay short-order cook named Jim "Johnny Cakes" Witowski who was romantically involved with gangster Vito Spatafore played by actor Joseph Gannascoli.

Costelloe also had a small role in Doubt, a critically-acclaimed drama currently in theaters.
