Johnny Depp is set to hold the record for the largest upfront payment in film history with an unprecedented $56million for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film.

Forbes named Will Smith as the highest earning actor earlier this year with $70 million, but Johnny's new deal could see him make over $123 million.

The staggering sum (US$56 million/AU$75 million) is the largest upfront payment in film history and will see Johnny, 45, move to the top of Hollywood's rich list - overtaking Will Smith - when he reprises his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Keira Knightley is no longer a pirate, and sorry all you ladies, but Orlando Bloom is unlikely to appear in the fourth Pirates as well.

Johnny's co-stars in the first three films in the franchise, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, are unlikely to appear in the latest instalment.

Johnny really made the movies; without Capn' Sparrow it wouldn't be the same.  Glad to hear he will be back in action.

I am sure he will do just fine even without Knightley and Bloom on the set.
