It seems that Jon and Kate's divorce will disrupt more than the lives of their children. Jon and Kate filed divorce papers yesterday and today TLC announced that they will halt production of their hit show Jon & Kate Plus 8.

TLC had originally ordered 40 episodes of the show, but network execs decided to take a break after airing just six episodes, including last night's episode when the couple made the announcement that they were parting ways.

Because of all the turmoil in the Gosselin's marriage, TLC does not have enough footage to put together new episodes right now as its production schedule had become very last minute. Episodes this season were often completed as late as the day of airing.

TLC execs said that next week's episode will feature clips from previous season of Jon & Kate Plus 8. The next new episode is scheduled to air Aug. 3.  Meanwhile, AP sent out a Twitter alert June 23, 2009, stating that Jon and Kate Gosselin have been living apart for "at least 2 years."

Jon & Kate Plus 8 originated as a series of Discovery Channel specials about the birth of their sextuplets in 2005.  It migrated to TLC in April of 2007 as a regular series.  If the revelations by Kate Gosselin that the couple has been apart "for at least 2 years" are true this could have played a role in the network's decision to pull the plug.

Kate's brother and sister-in-law wanted to people to stop watching the show anyway!

"We're just so heartbroken and sad about the announcement they made," Kate's brother revealed in a new interview.

Kreider continued: "An announcement that could be so life-shattering for a young child. It was used to gain ratings without any regard for my nieces and nephews."
