Jon and Kate Plus 8 Season 5 Recap: What Did Jon Gosselin Do?

The much-anticipated Jon and Kate Plus 8 Season 5 premiere aired on Memorial Day.

From the beginning, the season premiere had the air of a "very special episode" of Jon and Kate Plus 8 which would deal with a lot of the controversy that's been buzzing around the Gosselin family for months. For weeks, tabloids have focused on rumors of the couple's marital problems, suggested that the stars of Jon and Kate Plus 8 will divorce.

So what did Jon Gosselin do? Did Jon cheat on Kate? He didn't admit to anything, but did say that someday he's going to have to explain himself to his children. Kate later states that "He's made some very poor decisions, and you know, we all have to live with them." Of course, no one actually says what it is that Jon did. 

Much of the episode focused on the planning of the Gosselin sextuplets' birthday party (the Gosselin sextuplets were born on May 10, 2004). Kate is seen as doing most of the planning for the party herself. She compliments her oldest twin daughters for helping out during Jon's absence.

The show also talked about how fame has transformed their lives. Cameras followed Kate Gosselin during a recent book tour as well as scenes of Kate and her kids fleeing from the paparazzi.

Near the end of the program, the couple discusses their struggles once again, stopping short of saying that they're no longer together. Kate says that she is doing her best and Jon replied flatly, "I'm here for my kids."

Kate then tearfully described taking a photo of the birthday party, suggesting that it might their last family photo. She went to talk about how "parents of multiples have triple the divorce rate and thinking we could beat that. I don't know if I can say that. Very swiftly we turned into two very different people. I've tried for six months to figure what the problem is or remedy the problem. I don't know. It's so complicated."

The episode ended with the Jon and Kate together enjoying a barbeque at their house and talking about how they are both dedicated to their children despite the fact that they are going in "two different directions."
