Jon & Kate plus 8 season premiere: addressing the scandal

The fifth season of Jon and Kate plus 8 will be premiering on TLC Monday May 25th at 8pm, and this will be the first time that they will be addressing the scandal that has surrounded them for weeks - about how Jon allegedly had an affair with a younger girl and Kate allegedly had an affair with her bodyguard.

Last weekend the couple filmed segments for the premiere at their Wernersville, Pa., home in which they'll address the swirl of scandal surrounding them: Jon's late-night carousing and his alleged affair with a schoolteacher, and Kate's alleged affair with her bodyguard. For the first time, the show won't merely focus on how this couple manage parenting but also how they manage being a couple in real time.

This further provides evidence about how 'real life' and 'tv life' are perhaps one and the same, and still brings up questions of how much reality is actually in these shows, and how much is orchestrated for the good ratings?

This start of the season will focus much more on Jon and Kate's marriage and not just on their children; something which the public wants to see more of anyway. How do you juggle a marriage, eight kids and life in the limelight effectively? Chances are, you don't.

TLC has committed to 40 episodes this season, over half of which haven't been filmed yet. It is not clear if the theme of marriage in the season premiere will continue or will be brushed aside to focus on the eight sweet kids.

This makes me so sad, I can't imagine how dysfunctional the kids would be if they got a divorce...

Think about it. They would have to do the "I get the kids this week, you get them this weekend" and vise versa, and it wouldn't be all 8 kids. They would split them up, and they wouldn't live together like they do now. :(

Please let them work it out!! I can't stand when people don't work out they're problems.

I am so excited that the show will continue!! Can't wait to see it tonight. I do hope that jon and Kate get help with the marriage. I am really disappointed that Kate's own brother would go on TV and say that what we see is not real and her own sister n law would say she might be cheating on Jon. That's sad your own brother did that!!! I hope you guys work it out.

I love the show and keep it up as long as it doesn't affect the children in a negative way.

Hello Kate and Jon,

I am really sad to see what is happening to your family. I am sorry to ask, is all of this really worth it. I do not know what happened. Who did what, who cheated on whom and honestly it is none of my buisness. But what I really find sad is that when you began this journey, you looked so happy, a devoted wife and husband who seem to love each other and there kids, on an adventure to discover the world. I do not see that anymore. It seems to be a competition between the two of you. Jon go back to work, go back to what you are good at. Kate, I know you found a voice with your book tours and all. But maybe you should slow it down a bit. Or maybe you should stop all of this . Just do a once a year appearance.You are living your jobs day in and day out. You already have the most difficult job, being a parent. Not of one but eight. I have three boys and a 45 hour jobs and I sometimes want to quit all of it. I can not imagine, living your job 24 hours a day.

Remember your loved ones are the most important thing in the world.
