Jordin Sparks Shines at Big Apple Screening of "Sparkle"

Emulating the title of her newest film with her wonderful smile, Jordin Sparks attended The Cinema Society with Circa and Alice & Olivia screening of “Sparkle” in New York City on Tuesday night (August 14).

The 22-year-old singer looked amazing in a fitted red dress matched with fiery pumps as she posed with Jodi Wiedemann, Carmen Ejogo and Tika Sumpter at the Tribeca Grand Hotel.

In a recent interview with Reuters, the former “American Idol” champ opened up about how the film saved her saying, “"'Sparkle' came at a moment where I was actually pretty unsure with what was happening in my career.”

Miss Sparks went on to add, "My label was going through a transition and people were let go. Then I parted ways with my management and then I had some things personally going on. It just felt like everything was starting to not work out all at once. I was like, 'This is it? Five years and that's it?"

During an interview conducted at the official "Sparkle" premiere in Motown on August 5th, Jordin commented on what it was like getting to work with the late Whitney Houston, calling the experience "amazing". Still the singer-turned-actress acknowledged that things have been tough ever since her mentor's death earlier this year, explaining, "It comes in waves. Sometimes I can't believe she's not here."

Meanwhile, legendary singing sensation Aretha Franklin was also on hand for the big premiere in Detroit, appearing next to Ms. Sparks on the red carpet. And it was here that she paid the starlet a big compliment by stating that she [Jordin] was perfect for the film- “She was an excellent choice. She has a lot of class.”

Jordin Sparks can be seen starring alongside the late Whitney Houston when "Sparkle" arrives in theaters on August 17.
