Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Brother Dan Has Passed Away
The actor revealed in a posting on his Twitter and new media project website, hitRECORD, that his brother Dan has died, but he did not reveal much information about his death.
E! Online reports that his death may be drug related and may have been a possible overdose. Dan Levitt was pronounced dead on Monday October 4 at 3:58 a.m. in Los Angeles and while an autopsy has been performed, the exact cause of death will not be released until the toxicology results come back.
The Inception and 3rd Rock From the Sun star wrote that his brother @Burningdan had passed away on Twitter on Tuesday night:
My super hero brother @burningdan 1974-2010. Celebrate his life here ~ http://bit.ly/dBTMQ8 because he's fucking awesome.
His brother was 36-years-old.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt wrote on his new media website:
"He was my chief collaborator on the foundational incarnations of hitRECord.org over the years and continues to inspire us ever the more.
"He would absolutely positively insist that we not let this bad news deter us on our collective mission. That said, I might not feel up to it for a little while.
"Watching this community blossom into what it has become never ceased to amaze him and me. We would regularly marvel at it and high five. Thank you all for that.
"There he is now pouring heaping hollowed watermelons full of love over each and every one of us.
"So let's celebrate him, he's f***ng awesome:
"See you real soon, thanks again...<3"
Burning Dan 'taught flow arts' according to PopEater, and he started a school in Los Angeles to share his passion of this combination of performance art, dance, meditation, and yoga. It describes the brother's relationship as close, and Dan was very proud of his younger brother's success.
"It's wonderful to be mistaken for him. He taught me to question the relationships other people have with their siblings because he would be my favorite person in the world even if I wasn't lucky enough to know him as my brother. He's just awesome in every way that I pay attention to. I ask myself 'do I love him because he's my brother or is he really that awesome?' He's really, really awesome."
