The 2010 Academy Award nominations have been announced this morning, and the two unlikely rivals will be pitted in the best director category. In the battle for coveted award, the creator of Avatar James Cameron will go face to face with The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow. The catch is that Cameron and Bigelow are former husband and wife. The two were married from 1989 to 1991, but have no common children. Bigelow was Cameron's third wife. Avatar's director was married five times. He married his current wife Susan Amis in 2000 and has two children with her. Bigelow is still single.

Cameron's and Bigelow's rivalry will likely be followed very closely, as the world will watch on to see if Bigelow is going to beat her ex-husband and become the first woman ever to win the award.

Bigelow is the second American woman in the history of the awards to be nominated for an Oscar in Best Director category. The Hurt Locker is Bigelow's eighth film. James Cameron was nominated for best director two times. He won the award in 1997 for directing Titanic. Cameron has directed eleven movies.
