Finally putting an end to months of nonstop speculation, Katie Couric has just revealed that she is in fact leaving the anchor desk at "CBS Evening News."

The TV news veteran made the announcement to People magazine earlier today (April 26), telling, "I have decided to step down from the CBS Evening News. I'm really proud of the talented team on the CBS Evening News and the award-winning work we've been able to do in the past five years in addition to the reporting I've done for 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning. In making the decision to move on, I know the Evening News will be in great hands, but I am excited about the future."

As for her future plans, Katie revealed, "I am looking at a format that will allow me to engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling."

Couric added, "The bottom line is that I love doing all kinds of different stories. I have a lot of areas of interest and I want to be able to fulfill all of that."

As for the current time, Katie is continuing her job duties with plans to cover the Royal Wedding in London beginning tomorrow (April 26).

Meanwhile, insiders tell that "60 Minutes" correspondent Scott Pelley is the expected replacement once she makes her exit.

Katie Couric previously left NBC's "Today" show for CBS News after 15 years on the hit morning program.

According to the Associated Press, she was pulling in $15 million a year as the anchor of the network's evening news show.

On a promotional tour for her new book "The Best Advice I Ever Got,", Katie returned to her roots earlier this month when she visited Matt Lauer on the April 13th edition of the "Today" show.

The "CBS Evening News" star admitted it was "weird" to be back, noting that she was kind of in limbo at the moment as she had announced plans to leave CBS when her contract expired.

"I'm really excited about the future. [I'm] in the middle of figuring it out- where would be the best place for me. What would be the best job for me."

As for her most notable lesson learned, Couric shared, "Be true to yourself... not be influenced by outside naysayers... and as my dad always told me, 'Do the best you can every single day.'"
