Katie Couric in New Hampshire - Raw Video

Sufferring from low ratings on CBS Evening News, the much criticized Katie Couric is now covering the race for the president.

Here is some behind the scenes footage of the news anchor who has hired to replace the legendary but fading Dan Rather.  Most of it Couric footage is the mundane prattle of a "news presenter" just doing a job.

But it is revealing for those who haven't worked in Broadcast Journalism - it shows that while Couric maybe the visible front-end of news, it is the entire artifice of the TV News business that deserves closer scrutiny.

It reminds me of the seminal film about broadcast news - Network. There is a great scene in the 1976 film Network . An agining news executive (Max) and an ambitous young female executive (Diana) are breaking up, Max says to Diana....

You're television incarnate, Diana: Indifferent to suffering;
insensitive to joy. All of life is reduced to the common rubble of
banality. War, murder, death are all the same to you as bottles of
beer. And the daily business of life is a corrupt comedy. You even
shatter the sensations of time and space into split seconds and instant
replays. You're madness, Diana. Virulent madness. And everything you
touch dies with you. But not me. Not as long as I can feel pleasure,
and pain... and love.

Fascinating! What's also interesting is how many people they seem to have working behind the scenes in production.
