Kevin Cogill Gets House Arrest for 'Chinese Democracy' Leak
Kevin Cogill, who leaked a copy of Guns 'n' Roses' magnum opus Chinese Democracy on his blog, was sentenced to two months' house arrest and one year's probation... and he must also record an anti-piracy PSA for the RIAA. That's what you'd call "adding insult to injury".
Perhaps the court looked at this from the wrong angle: Kevin Cogill should be lauded for saving countless fans from actually purchasing the overwrought, overcooked, Slash-free mess that is Chinese Democracy. How many people, upon hearing Axl Rose making himself sound like a Bond-villain vampire, were deterred from suffering through the rest of the album? Think about it.
The 28-year-old blogger said he was just acting like a fan."I never intended to hurt the artist," Cogill told the court Tuesday. "I intended to promote the artist because I'm a fan.

Making a blogger stay home for two months sounds like a reward more than a punishment.
