Kim Kardashian Holds Cat by Scruff of Neck Photo: Animal Cruelty?
Kim Kardashian Tweeted Pic of Herself Holding a Cat by the Scruff of its Neck: Was that Animal Cruelty?
Kim Kardashian was at a photo shoot in Australia on April 18 when she tweeted a picture of herself holding a black cat. She is wearing a tight black top and long black gloves and she is holding the small cat by the scruff of its neck.
PETA was the first to respond, saying that Kim was not holding the cat the correct way. They said that Kim is not the only person who believes that just because a mother cat holds her kittens that way humans can too, but that is not necessarily the case.
Kim took to her blog on April 19 to protest the allegations that she had done anything wrong, saying:
rest assured, the owner and vet were on set and showed me how to pick him up. The cat was not harmed in any way and is perfectly fine! I love animals and would never do anything to harm any animals.
Hollywood Life does not believe Kim however:
Kim, we hate to break it to you but we spoke with PETA and a PETA rep told us, that’s not how you hold a cat!
How Do You Hold a Cat?
According to Pets.ca, a person can pick up a young kitten (around 2 to 4 weeks old) by the scruff of their neck as that is how their mother moves them. However, it must be done right and a person must never pick up a grown cat in this manner as it can hurt them.
Cat Care on Suite 101 says that a person should never pick up a cat by the scruff of their neck after they are more than a few weeks old. After that age they are too heavy for handling in this way and it will put a strain on their neck muscles.
Kim does not say how old the cat is, although it does look quite small, it is unlikely it is between 2 to 4 weeks old.
She does say that a vet was on the set however and they should have instructed her if she was doing something wrong.
