‘Shivling’ removed by administration in Mussoorie

source:http://www.garhwalpost.com/centrenewsdetail.aspx?id=10339;&nt=Uttarakhand

MUSSOORIE, 7 Feb: The recently discovered Shivling, here, had a harrowing experience as it was ‘abducted’ discreetly by the administration on direct orders from the top.
According to the residents, a stone resembling a Shivling had emerged from a construction site near the LBSNAA gate, had become the focus for devotees over the last 4-5 days and was being offered milk and fruits. The devotees converged at the site after the news spread like wildfire that the Shivling had been removed from the site. The female devotees who had come from as far away as Landour Bazaar were the most disappointed lot. A few BJP and VHP workers also visited the site along with Nagar Palika member Nand Lal and raised slogans against this move by the Mussoorie Administration.
Nand Lal said that the talks were in progress with various parties and he was given a verbal assurance that after the Chief Minister’s visit, an amicable settlement on the construction of a temple will be discussed. Instead of that, the administration has acted hastily and the decision had disturbed the people of Mussoorie and hurt their sentiments. He demanded that the original Shivling be restored and a place for the temple be designated within the area from where it had emerged.
The BJP, VHP and Hindu Jagran Manch activists along with a few Congress workers also raised slogans against the administration and a makeshift temple was again installed by covering it with red draping. However, fearing the wrath of LBSNAA, the senior public representatives of Mussoorie were not available for comments including BJP leaders. The devotees who were present at the site said that BJP was only interested in raising such issues in states where it was in the opposition and using such matters of religious importance for only political gain. Some residents also alleged that BJP Government was behind this move and wanted to gain political mileage by appeasing other communities.

ASI refuses to accept the object as Shivling in Mussoorie

MUSSOORIE: Feb 2

Scientists from ASI have refused to accept the “Shivling” that was excavated by construction workers in Mussoorie on Jan 30th near LBSNAA gate creating a row and resentment among Hindu activists. The senior scientist Dr.D.V. Sharma Superintending Archaeologist Dehradun Circle on the request of the administration visited the site at noon and initiated proper investigation in which it was found that object was formed due to gemorphological activities inside the earth reacting with the salt and water as the rock was metamorphic in nature. He also said that the continuous weathering activity has resulted in an object which resembles a Shivling . Dr. Sharma was of the view that the location could have been a water source several thousand years ago and due to the chemical reaction with water the object has acquired the present shape.

He further said that such geomorphological activities were regular feature inside earth and structure formation was a part of the scientific phenomenon world wide. He also said that the Shivling was not made by any human being and as the Historical consequence whatsoever. He told SDM GC Gunwant that it nothing but a natural rock formation.

VHP leaders in Mussoorie however refute the claims of ASI and said that it is for people to see with their own eyes that it was a Shivling. Radhey Shyam Tayal  a senior VHP leader and Rakesh Aggarwal senior BJP leader alleged that the ASI on the behest of congress led government in centre was misguiding people on this matter and playing with the faith of the Hindus.Tayal was of the view that if this if administration accepts it as natural Rock Formation then it is a miracle and the Shivling is the original which has fallen directly from heaven. He said that ASI has itself pronounced the Shivling as original therefore the importance of the Shivling becomes more and as a Sidh Peeth.

Radhey Shyam Tayal appealed to administration not to play with the sentiments of Crores of Hindus. He further added that if the structure belonged to any other religion ASI would not have commented in such a hurried manner. He also said that the Hindus are united in this matter and a temple will be built soon in accordance to the belief and aspirations of Hindus and the site selection will be done according to Hindu Rites soon.

Devotees are converging to offer their prayers and offering at the site of the Shivling irrespective of what the scientists say.

Limestone rock due to the natural forces and chemical reaction with water has taken a shape of Shivling and this is an ongoing phenomenon in the planet.Thei was no need for such curiosity he added. The experts from archeological department also visited the site and after close inspection found that object was a natural formation and not a prehistoric discovery of any bygone era and complete investigation would be made in one or two days they added.

Offering in terms of currency was flowing freely at the site of discovery. Let’s hope that the revenue generated from the makeshift temple would be shared with the workers who found the object too. However senior citizens of the town were perplexed that people of Mussoorie had ample time to visit such superstitious site but could did not find time for remembering Mahatma Gandhi on his 61st death anniversary.

A natural shape of the shivling must be even more of a miracle than just an ancient one rediscovered.

How exciting!

This is not meant to poke fun at anyone, but just verbalizing what's

on my mind as I read the latest developments on the Shivaling.

Reminds me of how every so often someone sees the religious images and shapes in

everyday objects. Like the Mother Theresa-shaped Bagel, the Elvis Potato Chip, and more

recently on Flickr, Krusty the Clown in a fried egg:

http://flickr.com/photos/8845924@N04/2994332147/

They need to give up the object to the town where it was excavated after they have

recorded all the necessary archaeological data. The local townsfolk can then pass a vote

on its status and value and even benefit from its possession, as is the case with relics.

Saw the egg is really hilarious.Your Suggestion are worth noting but in india temples and tombstones can crop up anywhere even at the dividers of the road sometimes the situations take communal turn.
