K'naan's family fled the violence in Somali and landed in Toronto where he grew up in the suburb of Etobicoke.

Wavin  Flag is from K'naan's  new release Troubadour. I had the pleasure of having supper with K'naan a few years ago at a Chinese place in Vancouver. He was gracious and thoughtful - an original. I knew then he was destined for big things. It is great to see the development of K'naan as an artist as he journeyed from war torn Mogadishu to Toronto  and now back to Africa where he is on a FIFA sponsored tour.

Wavin' Flag will be put to use in TV and online commercials leading up to the games, and will be blasted during every FIFA event of the World Cup.

By the time the games kick off in South Africa next summer, lyrics such as "See the champions take the field now/ Unify us, make us feel proud" could be as maddeningly ubiquitous as Ricky Martin's La Copa de la Vida (theme of the 1998 World Cup

K'naan will re-mix Wavin Flag for the FIFA World Cup of Soccer 2010
