The Material - On and On and On (New Song!)

Say it ain't so... perhaps my favorite venue in NYC is closing its doors... From the downstairs tap room where one can hear latino heavy metal to the mainstage where I saw Gogol Bordello rock the building to its very foundations, Knitting Factory is suffering the fallout of gentrification.

Long story short, neighbors hated the noise and crowds of people that emanated nightly from the space, which, combined with rising rents and an increasingly completive musical market, forced owner Jared Hoffman to close the Knitting Factory’s Leonard Street venue, and move to a new, though much smaller (only one stage, as opposed to three) Williamsburg location, which will open in March.
Okay, now how many of those neighbors lived on Leonard Street before Knitting Factory opened its doors in 1987? In other words, how many moved in next to an established (and famous) music venue, and then complained about the noise?

Knitting Factory is moving to Williamsburg, though, so it will- to some extent- survive... It's shrinking from three stages down to one, and cutting back its staff. This time, though, it faces an even steeper uphill battle, becoming the new kid on the block, so that neighbors will be able to legitimately complain about the noise.
