Koko Taylor, a gravelly-voice singer known as the"Queen of the Blues," has died at the age of 80.
Taylor passed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital after having surgery for gastrointestinal bleeding.
Born Cora Walton, Koko Taylor is best known of her recordings with Chess Records, which housed other blues legends like Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Willie Dixon, and Little Walter. One of Taylor's best known songs is Wang Dang Doodle, which was written by Willie Dixon and originally recorded by Howlin' Wolf.
Many modern audiences may remember Taylor for a small part in David Lynch's Wild at Heart.
