Kris Allen wins American Idol 2009, beating Adam Lambert. Over a million votes were cast.
Lambert had been considered the favorite to win American Idol's eighth season and Allen seemed genuinely surprised when he was declared the winner.
Allen, 23, who won over audiences with his all-American good looks and by putting his personal spin on popular tunes, appeared shocked as Lambert, a 27-year-old musical theater actor, embraced him after host Ryan Seacrest's announcement.
"It feels good, but Adam deserves this," Allen said to Seacrest. "I don't even know what to feel right now, this is crazy."

Kris Allen upsets Adam Lambert to win "American Idol," with nearly 100 million votes cast -- wow, I think America got it wrong, Adam was clearly superior over the course of the season, and Kris even says, "Adam deserves this!" to Ryan as his first words.
Kris is clearly, truly stunned; I'm not really stunned, but the wrong person won in my opinion, which is the first time I think you can say that about "American Idol" (pipe down, Clay Aiken fans).

The last two contestants, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert on FOX's American Idol went head to head in the May 19, 2009 finale show on Tuesday.
The results were revealed on the May 20th show, which aired at 8pm.
Adam Lambert seems to be the favourite to win, but Kris Allen is the underdog of the show and many fans want him to win.
They will each sing three songs before America gets to decide who will be the next American Idol.
Simon Cowell has refered to this show as a 'ding-dong', meaning it might not be as exciting as some viewers hope it will be tonight.
The show is being held at the Nokia Theatre in Hollywood, and fans started lining up this morning to get in to see the show.

American Idol is fixed..I don't know how they do it..but they fix the numbers or something..either that or America is cold stone deaf..because all though Kris can sing..ok..he can't put a patch on Adams tonsil..or anything else for that matter...It's truly a shame Idol can get away with that..I am no longer an American Idol fan..they suck. To set things strait..i am an older woman..who doesn't even like that ,much rock and roll..but I sure ain't blind and deaf yet.

You know people need to quit being sore losers here. Same thing happened last year but not such a big deal was made about it. David A was favored to win but David Cook won instead. And what difference does this all even make?? We all know that the first 3 runners up always get offered record contracts. So why the hell is everyone crying in their beer???? It's all so stupid and I know that Adam would not want to see all of this negative commenting on almost every sight I have gone to. Someone has to win and someone has to loose. And who the hell cares if it was Kris over Adam?? Kris clearly said that Adam should have gotten it. Hey at least he was not a sore loser like all of the people on here. I don't feel it was fixed at all. And I had no problem getting through with my vote. America just showed who they liked. So lets all quit our whinning and threatening to quit watching Idol. Its all so stupid. you said your an older lady I would have guessed you to be a scorned high school kid the way you carried on. Lets all be happy for all of them as they were all pretty talented those top 10. I myself feel that Danny should have been the winner hands down. But I'm not crying out saying it was fixed or it wasn't fair who won. Lets all try to be happy for the winner after all Adam is.

Adam was so incredibly out of everyone else's league that this was a no-brainer. Gay or not, frankly I don't give a $hit. He was just so amazingly talented at voice control, creative, interesting, original, outgoing, emotive, etc... that it's a rotten shame that he didn't win the title of American Idol. America effed up. And it makes me sick to think he didn't win, because the evangelicals and gay-hate mongers, who were probably behind Gokey, gave all their votes to Kris, just to spite Adam. It's definitely the biggest upset in Idol history, certainly the biggest upset since George El Stupido won a second term. And you know, Adam will outsell Kris, because the ones who voted for Kris didn't vote because they want to hear more of Kris, they voted because they didn't want a gay person to win the competition. Well, you know what, he made it to the final round, and brough Kiss and Queen on stage, so sorry Gokey supporters, you were too late! We've got a long way to go in this country, and I hope Adam helps to pave the way forward!

its refreshing to know that america listens
not just to vocal prowess and astounding performances
but to the one who touches the soul.
i myself am not a fan of kris.
but his humility onstage,
his willingness to musically help to his fellow contestants,
and his quiet confidence (in God, i believe)
made him a champion for the season!

Yeah, but the thing is, one person can vote as much as time permits. I used to do this for Lukas Rossi - when he was on Rock Star Supernova.
Apparently, THIRTY-EIGHT MILLION votes came from ARKANSAS last night.

Once again the contestant that tweens want to win wins. This is why this show sucks. If Lambert won at least everyone could say the person who deserved to win won because they had the most talent. Hell, even Kris at the end of the show said “Adam deserves this.” But in the end its better for Lambert. He’ll have record companies lined up at his door and involved in a bidding war, and “Idol” will get stuck with Kris singing a crappy “No boundaries” song and once again the producers will be pissed, why? Because all the tweens who voted for Kris, and all the people who voted for Kris simply because they didn’t want the person who should have won win (Adam) will not end up buying Kris’ album, and so Lambert will go on to make his new record company millions, and “Idol” will get stuck with Kris and “No boundaries.” And next year it will happen again, which is why this is officially my last year watching this show, and it should be yours. And yes, the Christian vote did play a role, with Kris and Gokey both church going boys, how could it have not?

Why is it so hard to accept that out of 100 million who voted, most of them went for Kris? Because the judges have been shoving down our throats that Adam will win, even the finale was staged for Adam. But the close to a million voters were listening with their ears, heart and soul.
Have you read about the comments of Jamie Foxx, Quentin Tarantino, Melinda Doolittle, Chris Daughtry, David Archuleta, and even Ellen about Kris Allen and how amazing he is? I guess not because you'd rather think that Kris got Christian or tween votes.
I'm a 40-year-old mom, and my mom who's 65 and my daughter who is 10 love how Kris renders his songs. He always sings it with his heart and soul (not just tonsils). And he is so humble. Up to the last minute, he showed how unassuming he is, mentioning that Adam deserved the title. Oh Kris, when will you realize that you are such a wonderful artist? I hope never but still keep on singing and making his own songs.
Will Kris Allen sell records? Of course he will. Close to 100 million Americans voted, even if only 1/3 of them buy his album he will still be selling A LOT! I'm sure Adam will too, and Gokey because they are both amazing talents.
Kris Allen is the winner, not just in American Idol but in the hearts of millions of people, including us and we're not even Christians.

I compeletly agree with you. There is not doubt that Kris didnt deserve it, and I am fourteen but I did not vote for Kris because of his looks(although he is really cute), all my votes that I cast were for his voice. He is gonna go far.

Bern, 100 million Americans did not vote. 100 million votes were cast... since someone could cast as many votes as he/she wants within the time limit, it's doubtful the unique voter number is anywhere close to 100 million.

Ya know I think this is a crock. I mean come on now... How many times did Kris have a standing ovation? NONE. How many times did Adam? TWICE!! But ya know what? It doesn't matter anymore ya know why? Cause now Adam has no boundaries like Kris does with being THE American Idol. Come on America! We all know who the true talent was....Adam! He will be the one with the fabulous career and he never could have gotten the exposure he did then from Idol. I look forward to his album and wonder what venue he will pick. Kris on the other hand it is hard to say what he will do...maybe country? They did not tell us who got what votes out of 100 million. I wonder if its because the best singer is gay, well at least achieving second place will not ban him from recording studio doors. Yep we will see a lot of both guys and some of those that got chucked out earlier. Its all a case of whom will achieve the greatest fame and earn the most money for their talent in the near future.
