Kristin Cavallari & Jay Cutler Call Off Engagement

They looked to be Tinseltown's next big marriage, but something went wrong for Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler.

Yesterday (July 24) it was confirmed that the reality star and her Chicago Bears QB beau had pulled the plug on their marital plans.

Before the news went public, Cavallari was spotted sans engagement ring as she chatted with friends at L.A.'s The Beverly on Saturday night. The 24-year-old was reportedly heard dishing on her relationship woes.

People.com reported, "She was hanging out at a table with Nicky Hilton and Alessandra Ambrosio. She was telling friends how she called off the engagement."According to the source, the "Hills" babe didn't dig Cutler's controlling nature, and finally things got to a fever pitch between them.

An insider told press, "Jay Cutler was beyond controlling and didn't really like Kristin to go out. When she did go out, he called all the time and demanded to know exactly where she was going and who she was with."

"He made her choose between him and being friends with a lot of her girlfriends. I'm not surprised it didn't last."

Despite Cavallari's claim that she pulled the plug, People.com initially reported that 28-year-old Cutler was the dumper, not the dumpee.

An alternate source explained, "She got dumped," adding, "She's absolutely devastated. She can't believe this is happening."

"She was planning her dream wedding, the date was set, the location '" everything was set," the source continued. "She's in shock that the dream wedding she was planning is going to end this way."

Indeed the now ex-couple had already completed their wedding registry for the Spring 2012 nuptials.

And just a week ago, Cavallari tweeted about her engagement party, writing, "Thx to all my amazing friends for making my engagement party a blast last night!" 

The breakup and subsequent wedding cancellation come after Jay was spotted alongside his then-fiance as she walked the runway during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week SWIM in Miami just last weekend.

Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler got engaged in April after the Bears' QB popped the question in Mexico. They had been dating for ten months.
