L.A. Reid is the New 'X Factor' Judge
Simon Cowell Welcomes L.A. Reid as X-Factor Judge
The X-Factor producer Simon Cowell has announced that Antonio "L.A". Reid, former head of Island Def Jam Records, will serve as a judge on the US version of the reality show.
L.A. Reid will join Simon Cowell, known for his snark on American Idol, on the X-Factor panel. The host of the show has not yet been announced, nor have the other judge or judges.
As a producer, L.A. Reid has won three Grammy awards and 18 BMI awards. Reid co-founded LaFace Records, signing P!nk, Avril Lavigne and Ciara during his tenure.
When he took over at Island Def Jam, L.A. Reid brought us Kanye West, Justin Bieber (yeah, it's partially Reid's fault), and Rihanna. He stepped down as Chairman of Def Jam this month.
Auditions for the US version of The X-Factor begin in Los Angeles on March 27. As with American Idol, and X-Factor UK, we can expect quite a few train-wreck audition videos in the competition's early days. Exhibit A: Abbey Johnstone and Lisa Parker.
"I am proud to stand next to my dear friend Simon, one of the world's most gifted and charismatic talent magnets," the Grammy Award-winning Reid added. "'The X Factor' provides an extraordinary opportunity for aspiring artists of every age and genre to showcase their unique talents. I truly look forward to discovering our next generation of superstars."
